 Debate of Old-New
The Nâzım Hikmet-Peyami Safa Polemics

Kemal Ahmet's Case
Against Leftist Pretenders
Against the Accusation that He was a Nationalist

Against the Accusation That He Had Turned Bourgeois

What ranked foremost among the aggravations from the left was the change that he had become a bourgeois. He was living in the flats in Cihangir and Nişantaşı, and he was writing innocuous articles under the pseudonym of Orhan Selim in capitalist-owned newspapers. Ergo he had become a bourgeois. The last lines of the poem entitled "Orhan Selim" in his "Portreler" (Portraits) were written in response to these accusations:
 | and don't forget that if you get tired
 and fall down
 I'll be the first man
to throw a stone at you!
But today nobody can find a line of you
 showing that
 you betray me.
